Boise, Idaho
Boise is the capital of Idaho and is the states most populous city. The original Fort Boise was 40 miles west of where it is today. It was near the confluence of the Snake River and the Boise River. This fort was abandoned in the 1850’s and was reestablished in 1863 during the Civil War. Boise was officially incorporated as a city in 1864.
There are many things to do in Boise including visiting the Gene Harris Jazz Festival in the spring, as well as the Boise Art Museum, the Idaho Historical Museum, the Shakespeare Festival, the Contemporary Theater and more. There is also the Morrison-Knudsen Nature Center which has both water fun and wildlife experiences. The Boise River provides a great destination for swimming, rafting and fishing. There are several winter activities to enjoy too, including cross-country and downhill skiing, snowboarding and more.
